Service charges to be reduced to save money

China will slash some government service charges from October 1, a move that could save corporations and individuals about 200 million yuan (US$32.7 million) per year and contribute to the country’s efforts to cut red tape and promote reforms.

The government will levy lower administration charges on 20 items, including passport replacement, notarization of property inheritance and trademark registration, the National Development and Reform Commission, China’s top economic planning agency, said in a notice jointly released with the Ministry of Finance yesterday. Fourteen government departments will be involved in the cuts.

Filing a trademark application will also be cheaper as the fee will be cut to 800 yuan from 1,000 yuan while the examination charges for patent agents and translators will be slashed by 25-50 percent, the NDRC said.

The cuts could result in combined annual savings of around 200 million yuan for companies and individuals, the NDRC added.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang vowed in March, when he took office, to cut red tape to revitalize the economy and give markets a bigger role.
