Shanghai secures Yangtze Delta deal

SHANGHAI’S commerce commission yesterday secured a deal with its counterparts in Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces to push for an integrated growth in the Yangtze River Delta region.

The agreement will promote standardized market regulations, coordinated supervision and credit mechanism, shared information and innovative ideas to boost economic cooperation.

“The Yangtze River Delta region is one of the most dynamic places in China,” said Xiang Xin, chief of the department of circulation industry development at the Ministry of Commerce.

“Such cooperation represents strong ties between cities in the region. They have different strengths that compliment each other.”

Shanghai’s free trade zone is seen as policy innovation, while Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province is strong in e-commerce. There are thousands of startups in the region.

“We hope to establish a better platform for all business,” said Zhou Rixing, director general of Zhejiang Department of Commerce. “The cooperation means more openness and better services, equal to all. It aims to put an end to economic barricade in the region.”
