Shanghai trade volume rises slowly in H1
Shanghai's trade volume increased 2.4 percent in the first half from a year earlier, slower than national growth, due to weak overseas demand and a decrease in the number of textile companies.
The city's exports and imports totaled US$391.9 billion in the first six months, Shanghai Customs said yesterday. China's trade increased 8 percent in the period, China Customs said last week. Economists told Shanghai TV News the drop was mainly due to a grim economy in Europe and the US, and clothing and textile companies relocating to inland cities.
