Sinopec heads Fortune 500 list

SINOPEC Corp topped the China Fortune 500 list again this year, while PetroChina Co and China Mobile were second and third - the same as last year, respectively, Fortune China Magazine said yesterday.

Sinopec topped the earnings list with annual revenue of 2.5 trillion yuan (US$395.6 billion), followed by PetroChina with 2 trillion yuan and China Mobile's 555 billion yuan, the magazine said on its website. China State Construction Engineering Co ranked fourth on the list.

The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the world's biggest lender by assets, entered the top five for the first time - in fifth place- and ranked top in net profit. China Merchants Holdings (International) Co beat the rest in net profit margin at 59 percent, according to the magazine.

Aggregate revenue of the Fortune 500 companies rose 25 percent from a year earlier to 23.7 trillion yuan, accounting for 50.4 percent of the country's gross domestic product. Combined gross profit added 12.8 percent to 2.1 trillion yuan, the magazine said.
