Speculators Warned
CHINA plans to modify its pricing regulations to impose harsher punishments on speculators who help drive up consumer prices, according to a briefing of the meeting presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao yesterday.
The decision to review the Rules of Administrative Sanctions on Price Offense will focus on illegal operations like swindling, conspiring, price-fixing and hoarding which push up commodity prices. It will introduce harsher penalties, the statement said.
Officials agreed that the new rules will be unveiled by the State Council, China's Cabinet, as soon as they are modified.
