Strategic tie-up for hub target
THE Shanghai government yesterday signed a strategic partnership with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to help cement its rise as a global financial and shipping hub.
"The partnership will offer a strong intellectual support for Shanghai to speed up its economic reform," said Han Zheng, the city's mayor, yesterday.
The academy yesterday unveiled its Lujiazui research base as part of the tie-up.
Shanghai is gearing up to improve its economic structure by trimming its reliance on manufacturing and building up its high value-added service industry.
The city has already set up an international consulting committee to solicit opinions from global experts, including economists and senior bankers and stock exchange executives, as it treks toward accomplishing its goal to be a global leading financial hub by 2020.
