Stumbling blocks
SLOWER global economic growth and protectionism may become two major stumbling blocks for China's trade this year, said officials at an annual conference yesterday organized by the Ministry of Commerce for Chinese traders.
Growth in the global economy may moderate this year and overall international trade may expand 7 percent, down 5.5 percentage points from that in 2010, Li Canrong, assistant commerce minister, said at the conference in Beijing, quoting data from the International Monetary Fund.
Another concern is rising protectionism and the pressure for a stronger yuan, officials said.
Cheng Siwei, a former top legislator, said the country should continue to improve the structure of its exports.
