TDI from EU subject to duties

CHINA has decided to levy anti-dumping duties from 6.6 percent to 37.7 percent on imported toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) from the European Union, which was dumped in China at an unfairly low price and caused damage to its domestic industry, the Ministry of Commerce said yesterday.

Starting today, companies like Bayer Material Science AG, Dow Chemical Tarragona and Perstorp France should pay the duties on the TDI which is widely used in rubber and plastic products made in the EU, the ministry said in a statement on its website. The ministry concluded its investigation into the TDI that began a year earlier.

Trade ties between China and the EU, as well as the United States, have been strained in the past few years.

The EU and the US have increasingly used trade remedies on what they said were unfairly priced and subsidized imports from China, and imposed extra taxes on Chinese products including paper, poultry, shoes and steel.

Last month, China placed preliminary duties on the EU-made chemical toluidine.
