Think tank gives solutions to cut inflation

CHINA should launch a mix of policies to cure inflation in the long run, the State Information Center said today.

Measures suggested include providing support to agricultural production to stabilize supply, accelerating reform of income distribution and regulating price of natural resources, the research unit under the National Development and Reform Commission, China's top economic planning agency, said in a report.

The measures taken in place in the past two months mostly target at curbing short-term price volatility, and they should be combined with some policies with lasting effects, it said.

China's Consumer Price Index, the main gauge of inflation, surged to a 25-month high of 4.4 percent from a year earlier in October.

China has stepped up efforts to cool price increase, including harsher punishments for speculation, exempting toll fees for some agricultural products, and providing subsidies for poor families.
