Wind sues rival for infringing copyright

Wind Information Co is suing rival Zhejiang Hithink Flush Information Network Co for intellectual property rights infringement and demanding a 100 million-yuan (US$15.8 million) compensation.

Wind is asking the Shanghai No.1 Intermediate People's Court to stop Zhejiang Hithink from infringing intellectual property rights, including financial data and software design and layout. Wind is demanding Zhejiang Hithink pay 99.2 million-yuan damage for its loss.

"We have 'a room of' evidence on (Hithink) copying," said Wang Yang, Wind's spokesperson, yesterday.

Hithink, listed on the Shenzhen Growth Enterprise Market, halted trading yesterday because of the lawsuit, according to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Its shares closed at 12.30 yuan on Wednesday before the trading suspension, down 57 percent from three months ago.

In July Bloomberg LP launched a lawsuit against Shanghai Great Wisdom Co for using similar or "copycat" terminals to provide financial data. Bloomberg demanded 6.6 million yuan damages and an apology from Great Wisdom. The court has not reached a verdict.
