Agency sets ambitious target for solar power
CHINA’S energy authority yesterday unveiled its solar power development targets for 2014, vowing to install 13 gigawatts of new capacity this year.
Wu Xinxiong, head of the National Energy Administration, said it will strive to secure the target by supporting the development of distributed solar power generation.
The goal is more ambitious than the State Council guideline released in July last year, which outlined plans to install 10GW of solar power capacity annually in the 2013-15 period.
To boost the nation’s sagging solar power sector, China has turned to distributed power generation and rolled out a string of preferential policies.
Wu said the NEA is considering new measures but did not give details.
He also encouraged local governments to further facilitate the development of distributed solar power generation.
