Agreements for 6 Petrochemical Projects
PETROCHINA Co and Sinopec Corp have signed agreements with Zhejiang Province to build six petrochemical projects that are worth up to 139.1 billion yuan (US$22 billion), according to a report.
The investment will cover the construction of two major refinery/ethylene complexes in the province - one by PetroChina in Taizhou and another by Sinopec in Zhenhai, the China Securities Journal said yesterday.
The deals also included a liquefied natural gas receiving terminal in Wenzhou and a gas pipeline linking Zhejiang and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region planned by Sinopec and the compressed natural gas and LNG processing projects in Quzhou planned by PetroChina's unit, Kunlun Gas Co.
In October PetroChina signed a deal with Royal Dutch Shell Plc and Qatar Petroleum to build a 400,000-barrel-per-day refinery and 1.2-million-ton-per-year ethylene plant in Taizhou. The total investment in the project is estimated at 80 billion yuan, the companies said.
The project still needs final approval from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the National Development and Reform Commission, the top planning body.
Sinopec plans to expand its existing refinery-petrochemical complex in Zhenhai in Ningbo.
