BASF opens Asia research center in Pudong
GERMAN chemical maker BASF aims to have a quarter of its global research and development headcount in Asia Pacific by 2020, a senior executive said today.
"Innovations based on chemistry will play a key role in providing solutions to help Asia Pacific meet the challenges of sustainable development," said Martin Brudermueller, vice chairman responsible for Asia Pacific.
The company today inaugurated its new Asia research center and new China headquarters at its existing site in Waigaoqiao, Pudong New Area, following a 55 million euro (US$70.4 million) expansion.
Ultimately employing more than 2,500 people, the site will be one of its largest outside Germany.
