Bohai Bay oil spill

ABOUT 6.56 liters of oil leaked into north China's Bohai Bay from ConocoPhillips' platform C in the Penglai 19-3 oilfield on Thursday, an increase from 1.66 liters on Wednesday, the State Oceanic Administration said yesterday.

According to a statement released by the SOA, an oil slick of 0.003 square kilometers was spotted east of the platform C at 8 am on Thursday, which was mopped up by 10:51am.

Compensation procedures for the environmental damages caused by the oil leaks before September 1 are under way, while another lawsuit will be filed for damages done after that day.

ConocoPhillips China, a subsidiary of United States energy giant ConocoPhillips, first reported the spill to authorities in June. The oil spills have polluted more than 5,500 square kilometers of sea water in the Bohai Bay since June.
