Busy plants drive China鈥檚 electricity use
China鈥檚 electricity consumption rose in August as factory activity in the country grew.
Electricity use rose 1.9 percent year on year to 512.4 billion kilowatt-hours in August, a reversal from a 1.3 percent fall in July, data released by the National Energy Administration showed yesterday.
The gain in August鈥檚 electricity consumption was partly attributed to increased industrial output.
China鈥檚 industrial output jumped 6.1 percent year on year last month, according to a latest report released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Sunday.
In the first eight months of 2015, China鈥檚 total electricity use rose 1 percent year on year to 3.68 trillion kWh. Electricity consumption in primary industries climbed 2.3 percent, that in secondary industries edged up 0.7 percent, and use by tertiary industry jumped 7.5 percent, according to data compiled by the NEA.
Households used 4.3 percent more electricity year on year in the first eight months at 489 billion kWh.
In the first eight months, China鈥檚 electricity generation capacity added 60.74 million kWh, with hydro electricity accounting for 13 percent and thermal electricity taking up 51 percent.
Investments in high energy consumption industries rose 2.1 percent from a year earlier in the first eight months, below the average 6.8 percent overall growth for total industrial investments.
