Cabot to use new center for clean tech
UNITED States carbon black processing company Cabot yesterday said it will open a research center in Shanghai to develop clean technologies and specialty chemicals.
The center, currently under construction and scheduled to open at the beginning of next year in Minhang District, aims to help reduce emissions of toxic chemicals and create products based on local needs.
With China contributing 20 percent of sales last year, Cabot decided to deepen its involvement in the local market to tap opportunities in recyclable production and cooperate in product development.
Cabot serves as a “recycler” of industrial waste as it converts carbon black, which is the common waste of oil refining and coal firing, into rubber, tires and color paste for ink jet printing. Cabot has been in Shanghai for nearly 30 years and contributed to local communities by pumping clean energy to replace previously used coal-fired electricity.
