Center Opens To Develop Products In Asia
EXXONMOBIL Chemical yesterday opened its US$90 million Shanghai technology center to help the company develop products in Asia, which accounts for more than half of global primary petrochemical demand.
The facility, based in Minhang District, is the company's third-largest technology center in the world. It aims to support growing prospects in China, which will account for a third of global petrochemical demand growth by 2020.
ExxonMobil Chemical is a unit of United States energy major Exxon Mobil Corp, which operates China's first fully-integrated refining, petrochemicals and fuels marketing Sino-foreign joint venture in Fujian Province. Exxon and partners Sinopec and Saudi Aramco seek to lift output at the venture but there is no plan to raise capacity in the near term, Paul Theys, chairman of Exxon Mobil China, said yesterday.
