Chemicals for water treatment in demand
CHINA'S demand for water treatment chemicals is set to grow 10 percent annually to reach 13.7 billion yuan (US$2.2 billion) by 2015, a latest Deloitte report said, citing tighter regulations, resource shortage and technology improvement.
The relevant market size could be much bigger, if associated equipment, chemical solutions and services, and other supplies are considered, the consulting and accounting firm said in the report.
"Backed by government policies, which include the industrialization of new equipment, the research and development of new solutions and the development of associated services, China's water treatment chemical sector will evolve towards specialty products, solutions and onsite services," said Yann Cohen, national leader for the chemical industry at Deloitte China.
Consolidation is expected to emerge in the market, which is now highly fragmented and dominated by domestic private sector players due to the relatively low market entry threshold.
The sector is in its "infancy" and the "landscape could change dramatically over the coming years," Cohen told Shanghai Daily yesterday.
