China asks for removal of US programs
CHINA'S Ministry of Commerce is demanding that the United States remove supporting measures for its renewable energy industry, accusing it of violating the World Trade Organization rules.
After an investigation, the ministry said six renewable energy programs introduced by the US have breached article three of the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures, as well as article three of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.
The six programs on wind, solar and hydroelectric energy in the five states of Washington, Massachusetts, Ohio, New Jersey and California have had a knock-on effect on global trade and created a barrier for exports of Chinese renewable energy products, the ministry said yesterday.
The ministry said it will take relevant legal measures and is demanding the US remove measures to give equal treatment to Chinese companies.
In November, the ministry started an investigation into an application filed by the China Chamber of Commerce for Imports and Exports of Machinery and Electronic Products, and the new-energy chamber under the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce.
