China trims fuel prices by over 2% as oil rates drop

China trimmed fuel prices by over 2 percent following a drop in global crude rates — the first cut after three recent increases.
At Shanghai pumps, the ceiling price for 93-octane gasoline is now 7.77 yuan (US$1.27) per liter, down from 7.96 yuan, while 97-octane gasoline will drop from 8.47 yuan to 8.26 yuan. Zero-grade diesel now sells for 7.66 yuan, lower than 7.86 yuan previously.
Nationwide, the gasoline price goes down by 245 yuan per ton, or an average of 0.18 yuan per liter for the benchmark 90-octane gasoline. The price for diesel falls by 235 yuan per ton, or an average of 0.20 yuan per liter for zero-grade diesel, according to the National Development and Reform Commission, which reviews fuel prices every 10 working days.
Prices vary among provinces and regions.
Shanghai pump stations are replacing the 90, 93 and 97-octane fuels with the cleaner 89, 92, and 95-octane gasoline.
