Copper production up

CHINA'S refined copper production gained 11.6 percent from a year earlier to 518,000 tons in June on expectations demand will improve with government measures to sustain growth.

June's output was also 7 percent higher than May's, National Bureau of Statistics figures showed yesterday.

Copper output fell 1.4 percent month-on-month in May.

"Since 2011, the slow growth of the economy has brought about a lack of downstream demand, so metals prices have also weakened. However, we think slight changes in economic policies and stimulus plans will let demand bottom out and rebound," said Fan Guohe, an analyst at Phillip Securities (HK) Ltd.

Refined copper production rose 10.3 percent from a year earlier to 2.916 million tons in the January-June period, the statistics bureau said.
