Demand on fire
HUANENG Power International Inc, China's biggest fire-powered generators unit, posted a 40.9 percent increase of profit in the first-quarter from a year earlier on higher demand.
It said first-quarter profit reached 952.8 million yuan (US$139.5 million). Its revenue advanced 38.7 percent to 24.3 billion yuan from last year due to expansion, according to Huaneng's quarterly report yesterday.
The company generated 58.6 billion kilowatt hours in the first quarter, accounting for more than half the total electricity generated nationwide. But the company's profit may be affected by coal price uncertainty this year, analysts said.
