Dow invests
DOW Chemical Co yesterday said it has invested US$17 million to build an emulsion plant at its Zhangjiagang site in Jiangsu Province.
The construction of the new plant is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2010 and production is due to start in late 2011.
The facility will serve the needs of the Chinese coatings market as well as supply products for Dow's adhesives, functional polymers and the building and construction business.
"The expansion is just one piece of Dow Coating Materials' broader long-term strategy for China," said Bruce Hoechner, vice president and regional director of Dow Advanced Materials, Asia Pacific. "East China remains one of the most dynamic and fastest growing regions in the already expanding Chinese coatings market."
The company said its Dow Coating Materials unit has returned to double-digit growth following last year's economic slowdown.
