Firm eyes to boost solar tracking
CHINESE solar panel maker Trina Solar bought Spain’s Nclave to acquire its solar tracking technology, Trina told Shanghai Daily yesterday.
Trina didn’t unveil the acquisition value but said it paid cash for a 51-percent stake in the Spanish company. The acquisition will help Trina import solar tracking technology to emerging markets such as China and India.
Solar trackers are devices to help enhance solar panels’ efficiency in converting sunlight into electricity by aligning the panels toward the sun. Such tracing technology can “increase the conversion efficiency by up to 30 percent,” said Alex Liu, analyst for energy and public utilities at UBS.
In South and North America up to 90 percent of solar projects are connected with trackers, but “in China (it) is only around 10 percent,” said Yin Rongfang, Trina’s vice president.
