German firm promotes green buildings in China
TUV SUD, a leading technical service and certification provider based in Germany, sees great potential in energy conservation in Chinese buildings as it formed a partnership with Shanghai Tongji University to develop the business.
The aim is to help building owners reduce their cost while meeting the Chinese government's energy-saving standards, said Wolfgang Hubl, senior vice president of product service, TUV SUD China.
The partnership, signed earlier this week, combines Tongji's knowledge in building design and TUV SUD's expertise and experience in implementing green building standards, such as LEED.
Chinese buildings account for 30 percent of the country's total energy consumption, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. The situation has forced the government to introduce higher standards for green and energy-efficient buildings.
