Gloomy data
CHINA'S iron ore imports fell 8.7 percent in June from May as a slowing economy curbed demand for the commodity.
The imports of the steelmaking raw material totaled 58.31 million tons last month, data from the General Administration of Customs showed yesterday. In May China imported 63.84 million tons.
China's economic growth may have eased further in the second quarter after slowing to 8.1 percent in the first three months, the lowest in almost three years.
"Prices for steel's key inputs, iron ore and coking coal, have fallen since the end of 2011 due to the slowing global economy and steel demand," Moody's said in a report.
