CHINA, the world’s largest gold consumption market, posted a 1.1 percent rise in gold use in the first quarter as domestic demand recovered, an industry body said yesterday.

Jewelry took up 226 tons of the total consumption while 73.4 tons were used for gold bars and gold coins. China’s gold production gained 14.7 percent to 110.7 tons, according to a statement on the China Gold Association’s website.

Last year, gold consumption in China fell 24.7 percent from the previous year to 886 tons, the first annual drop in more than a decade.
