Grass set to be greener in China
CHINA is one of the leaders by market share in technology for environmental protection, renewable energy and energy efficiency, according to a latest report by Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo Group.
China ranked third on a list containing the three areas which are related to sustainable development, after Germany and the United States, the bank said in a report to analyze trade of "environmental products" between Italy and China.
"China has been doing a better job than many other industrialized countries," said Gregorio De Felice, chief economist at Intesa Sanpaolo. "But China's environment remains fragile due to its fast economic expansion and urbanization process."
The report said China's energy demand in 2030 will more than double from the 2006 level, and incremental energy-related carbon dioxide emissions will account for 42 percent of the world's total if there are no policy adjustments.
China has promised to cut the amount of carbon produced per unit of economic output by 40 to 45 percent by 2020 from 2005's level.
