Inland power first
CHINA'S first inland nuclear power plant will be completed and put into operation in central China's Hubei Province by 2015, local authorities said yesterday.
The project site had been cleared in Xianning City, and construction was expected to begin in 2011. China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group and the Hubei provincial government agreed in 2008 to jointly build the plant with a generating capacity of 4 million kilowatts.
The cost of the first two phases of the project is estimated at 50 billion yuan (US$7.3 billion). The third phase could cost 45 billion yuan.
