Monthly expansion in power use slows
China’s power consumption rose 10.4 percent from a year earlier to 444.8 billion kilowatt-hours in September, the National Energy Administration said yesterday.
But the growth rate slowed on a monthly basis from the 13.4 percent surge in August, the fastest so far this year.
Power consumption by the secondary industry, or the industrial sector, rose 8.1 percent to 306.2 billion kWh last month, the electricity regulator said.
Electricity consumption by the primary industry, which includes agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery, added 5.5 percent to 8.2 billion kWh, while that of the tertiary industry, or the service sector, gained 13.3 percent to 58.4 billion kWh.
Residential power consumption increased 19.3 percent to 72 billion kWh.
For the first three quarters, China’s power use totaled nearly 3.95 trillion kWh, up 7.2 percent from a year earlier, the NEA said.
The NEA predicted the power consumption may jump above 9 percent in 2013 compared with a 5.5 percent gain in 2012.
