Nation's power consumption grows rapidly
CHINA'S power consumption rose 10.4 percent from a year earlier to 444.8 billion kilowatt-hours in September, the National Energy Administration said today.
The growth rate compared with a 13.4 percent increase in August, the fastest so far this year.
Power use by the industrial sector rose 8.1 percent to 306.2 kWh last month, the NEA said.
Electricity consumption by primary activities, which include agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, rose 5.5 percent to 8.2 kWh, while that of the tertiary sector, or services, gained 13.3 percent to 58.4 billion kWh.
Residential power use was up 19.3 percent to 72 billion kWh.
For the first three quarters, the nation's power use totaled 3.945 trillion kWh, up 7.2 percent from a year earlier, the NEA said.
At the beginning of the year, China's electricity regulator said the nation's power use was expected to grow more than 9 percent in 2013. Power consumption rose 5.5 percent in 2012.
