Nod for projects to lift power capacity
CHINA approved four thermal generator expansion projects worth 10.4 billion yuan (US$1.7 billion) to increase the country's power generating capacity.
The projects were approved by the National Development and Reform Commission under the principle of "growing the bigger power generators and eliminating the smaller ones" - a reference to cutting pollution.
The projects are located in Jiangsu, Hebei and Gansu provinces as well as the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, said the NDRC. The investment in the Gansu and Xinjiang projects exceed 3 billion yuan each.
The project in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu, will see the building of two thermal generators with a capacity of 300,000 kilowatts, with smaller generators to be shut down and 203 boilers dismantled.
China has quickened the approval of huge projects to bolster slowing growth in the world's second-largest economy.
