Rare earth deposits
CHINA, supplier of 95 percent of global rare earths, wants to set aside some rare earth deposits, including existing mines, the Ministry of Land and Resources has said.
Mining is not allowed in these areas without central government approval, Wang Min, a vice minister said in Beijing. He didn't say what areas would be included.
"Rare earths are important and strategic resources to China," Wang said. "It is an indispensable material for the high-tech, new material and national defense industries."
