Security beefed up 20% at jewelry show
ABOUT 20 percent more security personnel as well as two police sniffer dogs will be on duty during the Jewelry Shanghai 2010 show, with security checks claimed to be even more stringent than those being done at the city's Metro stations, an official with the organizer boasted.
About 100 policemen, including plainclothes, and another 100 security guards will patrol during the four-day jewelry exhibition that starts on Friday, Broadway Exhibition, the organizer, said yesterday. They will scan every bag and visitors will be banned from carrying bottles of water to the show which is being held weeks before the opening of the World Expo. The two sniffer dogs will also patrol around the warehouses at the event site.
"The exhibition's security checks are even stricter than the current checks at Shanghai's Metro lines," said Hou Jie, managing director of the organizer. "Each bag, no matter what size it is, will be scanned at the entrance."
Visitors need to show their identity cards to enter the exhibition.
"We beef up the security because of the coming World Expo," said Hou.
Jade pieces, costing more than 10 million yuan (US$1.46 million), will be the most expensive items at the exhibition.
About 500 jewelers from 15 countries and regions will participate in the exhibition.
