Tapping demand

DOW Corning and its subsidiary Multibase began operation at a manufacturing base in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province, to tap into increasing demand in China.

The plant makes thermoplastic elastomer products (TPE), which have applications in cars, appliances, sporting goods, construction, electrical and electronics and packaging industries among others.

"China is already the largest and fastest growing economy for TPEs in the world with the primary drive being the automotive segment, also a priority segment for Multibase globally," said Bernard Simon, CEO of Multibase.

Dow Corning has invested more than US$1 billion in China in the past few years. It includes a 1 million square meter integrated silicone manufacturing site in Zhangjia, the largest of its kind in China.

"China is already a significant contributor to our current success as a company and remains one of the top priorities for Dow Corning. This market presents enormous growth opportunities for us," said Jeremy Burks, president of Dow Corning greater China.
