Wind turbine nearly ready

SINOVEL Wind Group Co announced yesterday it will finish production of China's first independently developed 6-megawatt wind turbine in June.

The turbine would put Sinovel on a par with Germany's Enercon and Denmark's Vestas in producing the world's most powerful wind turbine.

Vestas announced earlier this month that it would unveil its first 6-megawatt wind turbine by the end of March.

"Sinovel has the global intellectual property rights for its 6-megawatt wind turbine. The development of the product has given a boost to the upstream production of parts and components in China," said Tao Gang, Sinovel's vice general manager.

He said the turbine would boost China's wind power industry, especially offshore wind power projects.

Tao said Sinovel has started developing a 10-megawatt wind turbine.
