Wison starts work on Venezuela project
A CHINESE builder of chemical plants, Wison Engineering Services Co, said it has started site construction work for a refinery project for the Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA.
The Shanghai-based company secured the US$834 million procurement and construction contract with PDVSA for the Puerto La Cruz refinery deep conversion project in 2013.
The announcement was made during President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Venezuela.
Wison, China’s largest private-sector chemical engineering, procurement and construction management service provider, said it has also signed subcontracting agreements with some Chinese state companies, including China Railway No. 9 Group Co, as well as Italy’s TREVI, for the project in the port city of Puerto La Cruz.
China has encouraged its construction companies and machinery and equipment manufacturers to boost their global presence.
Hong Kong-listed Wison said the site preparation project would be on schedule within 12 months.
“We are pleased to get strong support from the client, banks and sub-contractors that allowed the project to enter the principal construction phase,” said Zhou Hongliang, a Wison senior vice president.
