CHINA'S Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region overtook Shandong Province last year as the nation's second-biggest crude oil-producing provincial area, Chinanews.com reported yesterday. Xinjiang's crude output increased by 1 million tons to 27.4 million tons last year from a year earlier, Chinanews.com said, without saying where it got the information from. Production may rise to 28 million tons this year, the news service said. The region, which ranked third from 1997 to 2007, is now behind Heilongjiang Province.
