Xstrata to source
GLOBAL mining company Xstrata yesterday opened a Shanghai office, its first on Chinese mainland, to help source mining equipment from China and other Asian countries for its businesses around the world.
Rob Sutton, general manager for Xstrata China, said he's unable to give a dollar estimate for annual sourcing from China because procurement decision is made by each project on a case-by-case basis.
Xstrata will soon open another technology office in Beijing, and is in talks with a Zhejiang Province-based company to form a joint venture that will produce processing equipment for the copper industry, Sutton said in Shanghai.
