2 accreditations boost Tongji鈥檚 global prestige

TONGJI University’s School of Economics and Management said it has received two accreditations from international business school accreditation associations, which will help the university boost its global influence.
SEM has earned a five-year accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB), the longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools. It also received a five-year re-accreditation of the EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS).
“The accreditations recognized SEM’s progress in research ability, sustainable development and internationalization,” Jin Fuan, Party secretary of SEM, said yesterday.
“SEM will bring forward its commitment to promote responsible management and education and to contribute to Shanghai’s goal to become an international science and technology innovation hub.”
SEM is now in the top 5 percent of business schools in the world to have the two accreditations, which are regarded as the benchmark for business school quality in the academic community.
SEM is the seventh business school in China’s mainland that have acquired the five-year accreditation by the two most authoritative accreditation bodies in the world.
The accreditations were granted based on comprehensive reviews of SEM, including its development strategy, teaching quality, research impact, corporate relationship, resource management and social responsibility.
Huo Jiazhen, dean of SEM, yesterday said the accreditations would boost SEM’s reputation globally, help draw high-quality students from home and abroad and enhance recognition of SEM graduates among enterprises.
“However, instead of stiffly complying with standards, SEM is devoted to building our own core competence, which consists of a long-term international development strategy, application-oriented teaching and research, and sustainable development,” Huo said.
