3rd economic census to kick off

Shanghai will kick off the third economic census tomorrow, which will also take place in the rest of the country, to gather relevant data and information to help build up a picture of China’s economy.

Shanghai has mobilized 24,000 census takers for the census which is done every five years. It is also the first time that the census is conducted with digital devices to collect data which will be analyzed later. Yan Jun, chief economist at the Shanghai Statistics Bureau, said the census will shed new light on the city’s economic conditions, especially its strategic industries and small and medium-sized companies.
