Accounting majors most likely to secure job in their field, survey finds
CHINESE university students majoring in accounting are the most likely to find jobs in their field while financial majors are the best paid overall, a survey said today.
More than 60 percent of accounting students find jobs in the field because these jobs require expertise and are generally well paid, online job portal zhaopin.com said after releasing the results of a survey based on its database.
On the contrary, bioengineering majors are the least likely to get jobs in their field. Less than 10 percent get such positions while nearly 40 percent opt for sales jobs, the survey said.
Financial majors are the best paid as salaries in securities, futures and investment positions will rise “substantially” after two years of experience, the survey said.
“Financial students can choose from a wide range of relevant jobs in the accounting, investment and insurance sectors,” the survey said. “Research and investment positions in securities and futures require great expertise and the pay increases every year as experience builds.”
New graduates can expect a starting salary between 2,500 yuan (US$400) and 3,500 yuan a month for most jobs, while securities and futures positions usually start at 4,500 yuan a month, according to the survey.
