Audits discover misuse of money
THE Shanghai Audit Bureau has discovered irregularities valued at 136 million yuan (US$21 million) after inspecting the books of 81 projects that were invested by the government last year.
In its scrutiny of the 81 projects worth 32.15 billion yuan, the bureau also discovered that 2.11 billion yuan were mismanaged, Song Yijia, director of the audit bureau, said at a local legislature meeting yesterday.
Another 72.69 million yuan worth of irregularities were found after the bureau audited 19 government departments and their affiliates last year, accounting for 0.17 percent of the total audited expenditures, Song said, adding that the bureau also uncovered mismanagement of 376 million yuan, accounting for 0.86 percent.
The bureau will release the auditing results of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai in the second half of this year.
Meanwhile, Jiang Zhuoqing, director of the Shanghai Finance Bureau, said at the meeting that the city's fiscal revenue gained 29.2 percent year on year to 202.11 billion yuan in the first six months, accounting for 65.1 percent of the full-year target.
But revenue growth in the second quarter slowed to 21.8 percent from 37.1 percent rise in the first quarter.
Fiscal revenue from services rose an annual 31.7 percent in the first half, backed by finance, commerce and logistics companies.
Led by auto, steel and energy companies, the industrial sector saw a 21.4 percent rise in its fiscal revenue.
