Big Data central to innovation, premier says
CHINA will use Big Data technology as part of its national strategy to promote entrepreneurship and innovation, Premier Li Keqiang said yesterday at a technology summit.
At the China Big Data Industry Summit & China E-commerce Innovation and Development Summit in Guiyang, capital of southwest China’s Guizhou Province, he said foreign high-tech firms are encouraged to invest in China, especially in less-developed central and western regions.
China will also focus on protecting intellectual property rights and commercial secrets, and provide “a fair playing field for both domestic and foreign firms,” he said.
“New innovations should be given room to grow, free from over-regulation in a fair and effective investment environment,” he said.
The Big Data expo was attended by executives from a host of foreign and domestic companies, including Qualcomm, Dell, Microsoft, Tencent and Baidu.
High technologies, like Big Data and cloud computing, will bring “new hope” for economic growth and provide opportunities for less developed provinces like Guizhou, Li said.
