Boost in economic ties
CANADA sees strengthening economic ties with China as a top priority, and it is also looking closely at joining the China-initiated Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
“A top priority ... is to strengthen our economic and commercial relationship with China,” Chrystia Freeland, Canadian minister of international trade, said at a media briefing ahead of the G20 trade ministers’ meeting yesterday.
“We are working very hard on it,” Freeland added.
Canada is also “looking closely” at joining AIIB, which recently re-opened applications for new members.
