Business jet flights climb due to FTZ
BUSINESS jet traffic at Shanghai’s Hongqiao International Airport rose 4 percent year on year in 2014 amid growing business interest in the city’s free trade zone, according to the immigration inspection authority yesterday.
The airport handled 1,297 departures and landings last year, the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection said.
A rising number of business jets that arrived at Hongqiao last year departed from Europe and America unlike in previous years when they left from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, an official with the Hongqiao branch of the station said.
The free trade zone in Pudong New Area is drawing more company executives to fly on their business jets to look for business opportunities, the official said.
Shanghai plans to build its second business aviation base at Pudong airport, the airport authority said earlier.
