China M&A deals drop 60.9% in Jan

CHINA’S merger and acquisition market saw 116 deals in January, a 60.9 percent decrease from a month earlier, according to an industry report.

The value of 111 deals that have revealed transaction figures totaled US$4 billion, falling 59.9 percent month on month, the Zero2IPO Research said in a report released today.

Of the deals, 102 cases are domestic M&As valued at US$3.6 billion, accounting for 90.4 percent of the total, 11 cases are overseas acquisitions by Chinese enterprises at US$310 million and three are acquisitions by foreign capital at US$76 million, according to the report.

Clean technology sector see the most deals of 17, followed by 12 in biotechnology and healthcare care and 10 in the Internet sector.

Measured by value, the biotechnology and healthcare care sector topped with cases worth of US$562 million and the Internet industry was in the second place with deals of US$540 million, trailed by US$467 million in the IT sector.

There were 56 deals that were backed by venture capital and private equity funds, according to the report.
