China raises US debt
CHINA increased its holding of US Treasury securities in March for the second consecutive month, the latest data from the Treasury Department showed.
China added its treasuries holding by US$27.9 billion in March, with the total holding up to US$1.0876 trillion. China’s forex reserves rose for the third month in a row in April, as the cross-border capital flow became stable and the yuan stabilized against the US dollar. Japan, which overtook China as the largest holder of US treasuries in October, raised its holding by US$3.4 billion to US$1.1185 trillion in March. At the end of March, overall foreign holdings of US Treasury securities increased to US$6.0793 trillion from February’s US$6.012 trillion.
