China's exports, trade surplus shrink, imports rise

China's exports fell 0.3 percent in September from a year earlier, customs data showed today, ending two consecutive months of rises.

Imports, however, increased 7.4 percent last month from a year ago, accelerating from August's 7-percent rise, the General Administration of Customs said.

This left the country with a trade surplus of US$15.2 billion in September, compared with US$28.52 billion in August and 44.7 percent less than the same month last year.
