Chinese investment ‘a boost’ for continent

CHINA’S increasing investment in Africa is not a threat to the continent but a boost to the region’s self-development, a Ministry of Commerce spokesman said yesterday in response to doubts on China’s intentions.
“China has always been and will remain a trustworthy friend of Africa,” said Shen Danyang. “The accusations of ‘Chinese menace’ and ‘neocolonialism’ are completely unfounded.”
Investment in Africa has helped reduce poverty and lift employment, Shen said.
